Transformation Tuesday with Sally Symonds!
Let me introduce the AMAZING Sally Symonds who has lost over 50% of her body weight and not only looks fabulous but her beautiful smile truly shows us such proudness and joy!
How old are you and please can you share your health and fitness journey to date?
I'm 42 years old now. Initially I lost 45kg in 33 weeks. I kept that weight off for 5 years before losing another 8.5kg after that. In total I've lost over 50% of my original body weight and I've kept the weight off! Studies show that 96% of people who lose weight regain it all again - and more within two years. I'm one of the 4%! I'm also now a qualified PT and NLP practitioner and have my own weight loss company.
What types of foods did you used to eat as a kid and young adult? What's changed since then?
I went to boarding school so I was a fairly normal weight up until I finished school (we didn't have a tuckshop or anything and the food was really horrible!) As soon as I left school I started to gain weight. I would skip breakfast and ate a lot of fast food. I also relied on chocolate for energy (and emotional support!)
Do you play any sports or what sports do you like watching?
I don't play any sports and I don't like watching sports. I used to be a BIG cricket fan. I'd watch every ball of every game every summer. But when Steve Waugh retired I stopped watching completely. I'm a very "all or nothing" type of person!
What are your interests, passion and what makes you smile?
Music, theatre, animals... I used to be a speech and drama teacher and I'm originally from a cattle property so I guess that shows through!
What was the catalyst that sparked your lifestyle change?
I was a workaholic. I used to work over 100 hours a week - every week. I was turned down for a promotion at work and I was devastated. For three days I walked around in a state of shock. Then on the third day (my "resurrection" day) I remember thinking to myself, "I shouldn't be this devastated. It's only a job. It's not my whole life." Then I realised that it was my whole life because all I did was work! So I set about getting a life - and losing weight was how I did it!
What are some of your dreams/goals you hope to achieve over the next 12 months?
I'd like to travel a bit more and maybe take up some kind of sport. I'm thinking about archery, fencing or climbing ... then I can climb a whopping big mountain somewhere!
What tips would you like to share with my readers about your transformation?
You never know what you can do. Everyone is capable of so much more than they ever realize.
I would love to hear from you about your journey so please share it below!
