Merrymaker Sisters

I love these girls. I have been following them for the past few months on Instagram and finally had the chance to meet them at the Microsoft Office event in Sydney last month. Social media is seriously such a small world! Emma and Carla Papas are known as The Merrymaker Sisters. They are authors, Health/Bliss Coaches and paleo recipe developers. These girls are super passionate about sharing the benefits of the paleo lifestyle and ways to live happier and healthier. On their Merrymaker Hub they share original recipes, nutritional information and wellbeing advice. The girls truly believe that each and every person is here to make a positive difference, and they love to inspire others to find their bliss and follow it!

Emma and Carla take 5 minutes today to share with us their Fitness Food And Style ethos;

1. What fitness activity do you schedule into your daily routine to keep healthy?

No matter what, we move every day. The most important thing for us is that we have fun doing it! This means that it changes up a lot! This week we're loving hiking, high interval sprints, BodyPump and BodyBalance!

2. Describe your dream meal - what could we expect to find on your plate?

Our dream meal would be a plate full of delish slow cooked meat and a salad chock full of greens and roast pumpkin. We'd also add avocado and a sprinkle of macadamias! We'd of course have to finish off with some kind of sweet treat! Perhaps our favourite Paleo Caramel Date Slice!

3. Who’s your go to style icon - who have you always admired for their style, and why?

Ooo! Good question! It would be a cross between Kate Hudson and Emma Stone. Their look is effortless and comfortable. We're always dressing for comfort!

4. What’s a childhood habit or mannerism that has followed you into adulthood?

Since we were little, we've been best sister friends... and well, we still are! We always say how blessed we are to have a best friend that always available!

5. Name three things you can’t leave the house without and why?

Phone - we are bloggers after all! Who knows when there might be the perfect instagram shot?!

Bottle of water - we always try to drink around 2 litres of water each day!

Tupperware container - waste not, want not right?! If there's ever any leftovers after an outing our tupperware container will get filled! Yay for leftovers!

Paleo snickers cake (serves 8)

prep-time: 1 1/2 hours

freezer time: 1 1/2 hours

stuff you need…for the base:

1 1/2 cups walnuts

1/3 cup raw cacao powder

3/4 cup unsweetened desiccated coconut

100 grams pitted dates (soaked in boiling water for at least 10 minutes + drained)

1 tbs. melted coconut oil

1 tsp. vanilla extract

1 tbs. coconut sugar

2 tbs. crushed roasted almonds

for the filling:

250g raw cashews (soaked in water for at least one hour + drained)

100 grams pitted dates (soaked in boiling water for at least 10 minutes + drained)

50g raw honey

1/4 cup coconut sugar

250mL coconut milk

150g coconut oil

for the topping:

one serve of our paleo chocolate

1/4 cup crushed roasted almonds

Now what…

Line the base of a 24 cm spring form cake tin with baking paper.

Start with the base. In a food processor (we use our Vitamix), place the walnuts, raw cacao powder + desiccated coconut.

Whiz these ingredients until a fine meal forms.
Transfer the meal into a large mixing bowl, leave this for now.

Drain the soaked dates + place them into the food processor, along with the coconut oil + vanilla extract.

Whiz these ingredients until a smooth paste forms.

Transfer the paste into the mixing bowl with the meal + mix together (you may need to get your hands dirty for this job!).

Once it’s all combined, press the base into the cake tin, making sure you press it out evenly, covering the entire base.

Sprinkle the almonds + coconut sugar over the base.
 Place this into the freezer.

Now for the filling (you will need to rinse the food processor).

Drain the cashews + place them into the food processor.

Whiz these until a crumbly, buttery paste forms.

Now add the drained dates, raw honey, coconut sugar, coconut milk + coconut oil.

Whiz on high speed for around 4 minutes or until completely smooth.

Take out the base from the freezer + pour the filling on top of the base (shake the tin carefully to even out the top).

Sprinkle crushed roasted almonds on top + place the cake into the freezer for around an hour.

Meanwhile, whip up a batch of our paleo chocolate, take the cake out of the freezer + drizzle the chocolate over the cake.

Place the cake back into the freezer for 5 minutes or until ready to serve.

When ready to serve, let sit for 10 minutes, then rub the outside of the cake tin with a hot cloth + release the spring form slowly (you may need to run a knife around the edge).

Cut into slices with a hot knife! Store the remainder of your delish paleo snickers cake covered in the fridge for a week.

It can also be stored in the freezer + thawed out when it’s paleo snickers cake time!
