How old are you and please can you share your health and fitness journey to date?
36 years old. I'm a gym owner and personal trainer in Los Angeles. I discovered my love for fitness in my 20's and left my career as a camera operator in television to pursue my passion for fitness training.
What types of foods did you used to eat as a kid and young adult? What's changed since then?
I had no concept of healthy eating as a child and young adult. Today I practice the 80/20 principle of eating. I eat balanced and healthy 80% of the time and allow myself indulgences within limits for 20% of the time. It's the most realistic way for me to keep healthy while being able to enjoy the occasional treat.
Do you play any sports or what sports do you like watching?
I'm from New Orleans, Louisiana. Go SAINTS!!!
What are your interests, passion and what makes you smile?
I love going to the movies and dinner with my husband. My 5 month old son, Levi, keeps me laughing every day. My passion is fitness. Exercise is the best cure for so many things!
What was the catalyst that sparked your lifestyle change?
My former career as a camera operator in tv was physically demanding. I discovered fitness at that time while trying to keep in shape to carry the camera and keep my body healthy. Over time, I realized that I LOVED everything about fitness and how it challenged me both physically and mentally. I then decided to get certified as a personal trainer and change jobs. I'm so glad I did. Today I get to help others discover their love for fitness as well.
What are some of your dreams/goals you hope to achieve over the next 12 months?
I am currently developing a postnatal fitness plan. After the birth of my son, I realized that "bouncing back" wasn't going to happen overnight. And it was going to take hard work. I also tried jumping into my old workouts soon after his birth, and realized that I needed more specialized programs specifically for my postnatal needs. I can't wait to finish this project to help other moms lose weight, strengthen their pelvic floors, flatten their tummies and get their confidence back!
What tips would you like to share with my readers about your transformation?
I gained 28 lbs during my pregnancy. I exercised as much as I could and tried my best to maintain a healthy balanced diet. I did light resistance training, walked and swam. I continued to walk and swim up until the days before his birth. Levi was born on June 9, 2014 at 9 lbs 1 oz. He is now 5 months old and I am back to my pre-pregnancy weight. My post transformation photo was taken 11 days after his birth. I truly believe that all of my efforts during my pregnancy helped my recovery so much. I love being a mom and look forward to sharing my love for fitness with my son.
