Transformation Tuesday with James

How old are you and please can you share your health and fitness journey to date?

30. Something clicked late July/early August last year that it was time to make a change. I'm not really what or why, but it just did. I'd been a reasonably regular gym-goer and cyclist, however it wasn't with any great consistency. I just started out and kept on keeping on. I focused fairly heavily on calorie counting (not being ridiculous about it but measured and consistent) and being far more dedicated to 4 or 5 gym sessions a week and minimum 2 good bike rides a week.

What types of foods did you used to eat as a kid and young adult? What's changed since then?

On the whole, my diet wasn't too bad, however, certainly over the past 10 years or so it dropped off from being mostly clean eating to a fair amount of clean eating, however too many bad meals (not junk food however) or overeating and too much binge drinking as a uni student (spirits and coke by the bucket load!)

Recent years has seen it mostly clean, however slips at times whereas, since August, I've been very conscious about what goes in and making sure that, if I do lash out, that I balance it out.

Do you play any sports or what sports do you like watching?

Big fan of cycling and becoming fairly interested in triathlon - although need to drop a few more kgs to make the run less arduous!

What are your interests, passion and what makes you smile?

Cycling, playing my drums, cooking. These days - self-reflection makes me smile - realising what I've accomplished in the past months certainly brings a grin!

What was the catalyst that sparked your lifestyle change?

I honestly don't know. I just had a light bulb moment and realized I needed to do something.

What are some of your dreams/goals you hope to achieve over the next 12 months?

I'd like to drop down to the mid-90kg mark. I'm hoping to being doing a few triathlons, ideally building up to Olympic distance. So dropping those extra kilos will help make the run easier - something I've never been too good at!

What tips would you like to share with my readers about your transformation?

Set small achievable goals and continue putting one step after another, after another, after another. By setting achievable, although challenging, goals you'll be able to mentally stick to your guns by ticking them off. The reward for ticking off these goals will help you continue achieving them over and over.
